Download the Firmware Upgrade Utility

In order to upgrade the firmware on your remote control, you will need to download the firmware update application from the following URL and extract the files into a directory on your computer:

https://www.aarcomm.com/s/Aarcomm_Firmware_Upgrade_Utility.zip

NOTE: If you encounter an error that MSVCR100.dll was not found, please try installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x86 version). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999

NOTE: If you encounter an error that BSL430.dll was not found, please ensure that you have extracted all the files to a separate folder and that you are not running Aarcomm_Firmware_Utility directly from the zip file.

H212 Handheld Firmware Upgrade Instructions

1. Save the firmware update file (".txt") that was emailed to you to your computer's file system. This will be a .TXT file that typically starts with “FPR-10021-“.

2. Run the Aarcomm_Firmware_Utility program. Click Next on the first screen, then select "I accept the license agreement" on the next screen and click Next again. The program will show "No device connected".

3. Turn off the handheld remote.

4. Pull the cover off at the keyring of the handheld and plug in the USB-mini cable. Do not plug the other end into your computer yet.

5. Set the handheld on a flat surface and firmly hold down the Left and Right rectangular buttons that are on either side of the upper display (closest to the green button), and while still holding these two buttons plug the USB cable into your computer. The red and green lights on the handheld should begin to flash alternately, and you can then release the buttons.

6. The Aarcomm_Firmware_Utility program should now show "Found 1 device" (the first time, Windows may take a few minutes to install the driver before the button is enabled). Click Browse, navigate to and double-click the new firmware .TXT file that you received.

NOTE: Do not upload the file called "Firmware Upgrade Instructions.txt". Only upload the file that starts with “FPR-10021-“.

7. Click Upgrade Firmware.

8. When the progress bar reaches the right-hand side and "Done!" is displayed, click Close.

9. Make sure you have closed the Aarcomm_Firmware_Utility program, and press the red button on the handheld and unplug the cable. (There is a bug in some versions of Microsoft Windows, notably Windows XP, that will cause the USB system to stop working if you forget to close the program before turning off or disconnecting the handheld; in that case, a power-cycle of your computer is required to reset the USB system.)

10. We recommend that you rematch the H212 with the receiver after updating the firmware.

C220 Receiver Firmware Upgrade Instructions

1. Save the firmware update file that was emailed to you to your computer's file system. This will be a .TXT file that typically starts with “FPR-10030-“.

2. Run the Aarcomm_Firmware_Utility program. Click Next on the first screen, then select "I accept the license agreement" on the next screen and click Next again. The program will show "No device connected".

3. To put the C220 into programming mode, the programming cable's C220 USB plug needs to be plugged into your computer before applying power to the C220. Windows will try to identify the device in the first second or two after plugging in the USB cable, so plug in the wall adapter immediately after the USB cable. In case Windows is too quick and shows "Unknown USB device" before you get the power turned on, just leave the power adapter plugged in, then unplug and replug the USB cable to your computer. The C220's light should be orange (red and green).

4. The firmware update program should be showing "Found 1 device". Select and program the attached firmware into your C220.

NOTE: Do not upload the file called "Firmware Upgrade Instructions.txt". Only upload the file that starts with “FPR-10030-“.

5. Close the firmware update program and unplug the USB cable. The C220's light may be either white or purple (or even flashing purple) at this point. Power cycle the C220.

6. We recommend that you rematch the handhelds with the C220 after updating the firmware.

C200 Receiver Firmware Upgrade Instructions

The C200 Receiver uses a different firmware upgrade application than the other products. If you do not have the Texas Instruments firmware update application "LM Flash Programmer" already, download "LM Flash Programmer" from the following URL and extract and install the application into your computer:

http://www.ti.com/tool/LMFLASHPROGRAMMER

NOTE: Although this is a small, simple program, TI requires you to register with them before they will send you any of their software.  Click on the red "Get Software" button and follow the instructions for a "New user" if you do not already have an account.

1. Save the firmware update file that was emailed to you to your computer's file system. This will be a .BIN file that typically starts with “FPM-10045-“.

2. Plug the black and gray connectors of the programming cable into the C200.

3. To put the C200 into programming mode, the programming cable's "Main" USB plug needs to be plugged into your computer before applying power to the C200. Plug in the AC adapter after the USB cable is plugged into the computer.

4. Run the LM Flash Programmer program. If the program does not open, try right-clicking the file and selecting “Run as Administrator”. Fill out the tabs as follows:

4a. Configuration tab:

Quick Set: select "Manual Configuration"

Interface: select "USB DFU"

NOTE: If “USB DFU” does not show up as an option, try updating the USB driver with the following patch:

http://software-dl.ti.com/tiva-c/SW-TM4C/latest/exports/SW-TM4C-2.1.4.178.PATCH-1.0.zip

  1. While the C200 device is connected to the computer, open up Device Manager.
  2. Find “Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrade” and choose “Update Driver”.
  3. Choose “Browse my computer for driver software”.
  4. Select your extracted “windows_drivers” folder. Disregard the patch_readme.txt file that instructs you to “Replace the folder "windows_drivers" of TivaWare v2.1.1.178 with the contents of this patch.”

In the pane at center-right, "0-Stellaris Device Firmware Update" should be shown. If it isn't, click the "Refresh" button which is above this pane.  If it still doesn't appear, unplug the programming cable from the AC adapter and unplug the "Main" USB cable from the computer, and repeat steps 2 and 3 (note that it is not necessary to restart the LM Flash Programmer program).

4b. Program tab:

Select .bin file: click the "Browse" button and select the firmwre update file you saved in step 1 above.

Select "Verify After Program"

Select "Reset MCU After Program"

Set "Program Address Offset" to "0" (zero)

4c. The other tabs do not require any settings.

5. Confirm the settings in 3a and 3b above. In the Program tab click on the "Program" button. At the bottom of the tab a progress bar will show "Programming" for a few seconds, then "Verify

Complete - Passed" if all went well.

6. Disconnect the programming cable, reinstall the C200, and test the system operation.

7. We recommend that you rematch the handhelds with the C200 after updating the firmware.
